Max Blair gets fourth win in a row, Jonny Boyd gets third in a row, Kramer and Eicher get first of season on Autograph Night at Raceway 7!

Conneaut, OH (June 11, 2010): The third time’s a charm! So the saying goes. On the originally scheduled Autograph Night rain was in the area and even sprinkled on track during racing activities so the front stretch fan-favorite was delayed two weeks. The second night was completely done in by a late afternoon thunderstorm that drenched the grounds too late for the track to be saved. The charm of number three was that it was a beautiful late spring day all day. The largest crowd of the season enjoyed the festivities that included give-a-ways involving race tickets, door panels, bicycles, and tee-shirts as well as the usual autographed photos and candy. All 86 cars in attendance were invited to the straight-a-way and most answered the call. A great time was had by all.

When the features got underway it was Dan Lewis and Don Kramer leading the way in the Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stocks with Lewis leading from the drop of the green. Kramer was leading the 23 car field by the end of lap two. Ed Bolyard and Shawn Fawcett came to second and third at lap three. Caution plagued the event with several cars spinning throughout the race. At halfway Kramer enjoyed a 5-car length lead over Fawcett with Bolyard third and Chris Withers fourth. Bolyard spun out of the third spot with two laps to go for a late yellow, erasing Kramer’s lead. At green Withers immediately dispatched Fawcett for second and set sail for the leader but yellow was shown one final time as the white flag was shown, setting up a one-lap dash for the checkers. Withers tried but had no success in catching Kramer as he went on to his first win of the season over Withers, Fawcett, Zimmer, and Tim Burns.

Jonny Boyd, looking for three straight feature wins, sat on the pole through the luck of the draw and led from the very start of the feature for the Evergreen Lake Park Campground Mini Stocks. By halfway Kyle Jackson was second and appeared at times to be closing but luck was on Boyd’s side as he had built a substantial lead and with no yellows to close the gap, sped to his third consecutive win over Jackson.

Dwayne Pond led from the outside front row at the start of the Schwartz Construction FASTRAK Late Models feature with pole-sitter Michael Mitchell falling into second. By the time of the first yellow at lap 6, Max Blair, looking to remain the only FASTRAK winner this season, was in third. After the restart Blair was all over the track looking for a way around the leader and succeeded on lap seven. At lap ten Blair’s father, Robbie, was by Pond for second and set sail tracking down his son, determined a different Blair should sit in the Winner’s Circle. Max was strong and continued to build a cushion until caution flew for a spin by Bob Diver at lap thirteen. At green, Max again powered away from Robbie. Yellow again flew just one lap later and again on the green Max powered away. With 5 to go, it was the younger Blair leading the older Blair with Pond third, Damian Bidwell fourth, and Bill Cunningham fifth. Bidwell made several attempts to get by Pond but Cunningham was dogging him from the rear and got by in the final laps. At the checkers it was Max Blair, Robbie Blair, Dwayne Pond, Bill Cunningham, and Damian Bidwell filling out the top five.

Gary Eicher, in his first visit to Raceway 7 this season, led from the pole position at the start of the Zimmer Service Center E-Mod feature with Percy McDonald running second. At lap ten McDonald got alongside on the back straight but Eicher was again in command when they reached the front side of the track. At lap twelve Rich Michael, the most recent E-Mod winner, spun in turn two while running fourth. At green the order was Eicher, McDonald, Alan Dellinger, Russ Dunn, and Joel Watson fourth. Justin Carlson was up to sixth after starting in the rear. That order remained the rest of the event.
