Conneaut, OH (July 16, 2010): Max Blair’s Schwartz Construction FASTRAK Late Model win streak came to a halt Friday night as a flat tire with two laps remaining ended his chance to win number eight. But it was still a Blair in the Winner’s Circle as Robbie Blair held of the challenges of Bill Cunningham over the final two laps to pull out the win. Point’s leader Russ Dunn finally broke through for his first win of the season in the Zimmer Service Center E-Mods with a wire to wire run. Shaun Fawcett is starting his own win streak with a victory in the Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stocks for the third consecutive race. And Jonny Boyd put a bit of extra padding on his point’s lead by coming to the finish line first in the Evergreen Lake Park Campground Mini Stocks feature for the fifth time this season. At the conclusion of the evening’s racing, the crowd was treated to a huge fireworks display by Gibson Fireworks of Titusville.
Justin Kreider and Bill Cunningham brought the twenty Schwartz Construction Fastrak Late Models to the green with Cunningham taking the lead. Max Blair started eleventh looking for win number eight of the year but was third at the end of four laps. Bob Dorman was second when the first yellow flag was shown at lap six for a double spin by Justin Kreider and Bob Diver. At the green Chad Wright wound up against the front stretch wall and Mike Mitchell spinning into the infield for yellow number two. Wright went to the pits with problems. Blair was leading less than one lap after green. At lap nine John Lacki and Bud Watson got together in turn two, again slowing the race. At halfway Robbie Blair was third and chasing down Cunningham while Max was getting away. During a yellow Newt Tackett was sent to the pits for failure to get in position. After green again was shown, Robbie Blair came to second but Max Blair was the class of the field and led until another restart at two laps remaining when Bill Cunningham managed to get on the restart. In the third turn five cars piled up with Max Blair having a flat right-rear tire. For the restart Robbie Blair was the leader with Cunningham second. Robbie led the final two laps with Cunningham winding up second, Bob Dorman third, Dave Airgood fourth, and Mike Mitchell fifth.
Gerry Kielar and point’s leader Russ Dunn led the Zimmer Service Center E-Mods to the green flag with Dunn leading lap one. By the end of three laps Joel Watson was second with Joe Gabrielson third. After a debris caution near the mid-point, Dunn led Watson, Chuck Steinle, Rich Michael, and Joe Gabrielson the rest of the distance. It was Dunn’s first win of the season.
Joe Rohrer and former champion Dave Ferringer led the Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stocks to starter Roger Osburn’s green flag with Shaun Fawcett, looking for three straight wins, starting inside row two. Fawcett was leading at the end of lap one with Rohrer second. At lap three Ken Zimmer had come to fourth from his eighth place starting spot just as caution came over the raceway when Nate Arp looped his mount in turn one. At halfway Zimmer and Rohrer were side by side with Zimmer appropriating the spot to himself one lap later. Fawcett led the remainder of the race with Zimmer second. Randy Wyant, in his first visit to Raceway 7 this season, was third, with Rohrer fourth and Ferringer fifth.
Jonny Boyd started on the pole of the Evergreen Lake Park Campground Mini Stocks looking for his second win in a row and fifth on the season. Third place points car Bill Rabbits started next to him with Boyd’s closest competitor in the season-long standings, Bud Sergeff, right behind for the start. Boyd took the immediate lead with Rabbits second and Tim Gillette third after one lap. Coming out of turn two on lap three Rabbits, Gillette, Kyle Jackson, and Sergeff were four-wide with not enough room. Rabbits wound up on his roof, bringing out the red flag. Gillette was OK and the race resumed with Boyd, Sergeff and Jackson leading the way. Jackson got alongside Boyd every turn and succeeded in completing the pass at the end of lap four. On lap six Jackson went way wide in turn two allowing Boyd and Sergeff to get by. Jackson then slowed and went pitside at the end of the lap. For the rest of the event Boyd and Sergeff battled with Boyd being able to hang on for his fifth win of the season. Sergeff was second with Joe Plesniak third, Jason Easler fourth, and Josh Hovis fifth.
Next week will be a regular night of racing at the popular northeast Ohio speedplant with racing in all four classes set to start at 7:30.
