Conneaut, OH, May 16, 2012: The 2012 racing season has been underway for two weeks with the points chases just getting started.

The Evergreen Lake Park Campgrounds FASTRAK Late Models Billy Henry has the current lead with a slim 3-point advantage over Kyle Zimmerman on the strength of two second place finishes. Dave Airgood, with the opening night win but a disappointing run last week, runs third, 23 points in arrears of Zimmerman.

At this early point in the season 2010 Champion Russ Dunn, the opening night winner, has a slim 7-point lead in the Zimmer Service Center E-Mods over a tie for second place between Shane Crotty and 2011 Champion, second week winner Joel Watson. Crotty is looking for his first ever win and has been running near the front this season.

The Street Stocks have the closest early season points race with last week’s winner Joe Rohrer holding the slimmest of margins, just one point, over Paul Schreckengost who in turn holds a 2-point edge over third running Tommy Fox. Rohrer got his first-ever Raceway 7 feature win last week while Rusty Wheeler, a past Champion, took the opening night honors but had mechanical gremlins strike early in last week’s feature.

John Boyd Sr holds a 14-point lead over a tie for second place between opening night winner Bud Sergeff and last week’s winner, the 2-time defending champion Jonny Boyd. The elder Boyd has a second and a third place finish this season in the Specialty Products Mini Stocks competition.

The new Economod class has been dominated the first two weeks by Brandon Blackshear, winning both heats and both features for a perfect box score to date. Eric Paulus, with a second and a third, rides second in points, a distant 45 points back. Jodi Woodworth is a further 19 points behind Paulus.

Conneaut, OH, May11, 2012:Beautiful blue skies and comfortable temperatures greeted fans coming to Raceway 7 for the $500 to win special for the Street Stocks. In an exciting Street Stock Special Northeast, PA’s Joe Rohrer tried inside and outside lap after lap to find a way around Jamestown, NY’s Tommy Fox, finally making the pass with two laps to go to get his first-ever Raceway 7 win. Albion, PA’s Chad Wright led flag to flag to win his first ever Evergreen Lake Park Campground FASTRAK Late Model feature. Joel Watson emerged triumphant in the Zimmer’s Service Center E-Mod feature after an early race duel with Rich Michael until a backmarker drove in front of the leaders, eliminating Michael from the race. Jonny Boyd regained his championship form, easily outdriving the field to get his first feature win of the year in the Specialty Products Mini Stocks. Brandon Blackshear drove to his second Economod feature win in as many weeks, the first two-time winner of the young season.

Street Stocks were treated to a $500 to win special with seventeen cars taking the green for twenty laps. Tim Deutsch took the immediate lead but a restart was called when Mark Frontera spun in the first turn. After restart outside pole sitter Ed Bolyard grabed the lead with Rush Firestone coming to second at lap two, as Ryan Blood spun for yellow number two. Firestone was able to get next to Bolyard at the end of three but spun coming through turn four on lap four. Another caution immediately came out on the restart. The next start was good with Tommy Fox challenging until the next yellow a lap later which became a red flag as Rish Firestone developed a fire in the right rear. At six laps in Bolyard and Fox were joined in the lead battle by Joe Rohrer. Bolyard, on the high side of the three-way battle spun in the “loose stuff” in turn four, leaving the leaders Fox, Rohrer, and 2011 champion Chris Withers. At halfway Fox was the leader but Rohrer was alongside with Withers dropping back. At eleven laps Bolyard and Ryan Blood tangled in turn three. Rohrer tried lap after lap to gain the lead finally getting by at the end of lap 18. Rohrer went on to the win over Fox, Withers, Paul Schreckengost, and Shawn Fawcett.

Twenty five Zimmer Service Center E-Mods were first on the track for their 20-lap feature with Leonard Enos and Gary Eicher pacing the field. Wendell Pinckney and Percy McDonald got together an spun coming to the green flag bringing yellow out immediately. Gary Eicher led the first time by green but caution again ensued as Clint Brady spun at the pit entrance at the conclusion of the first lap. On green Rich Michael came from third to the lead by the back straight. 2011 champion Joel Watson came to third at lap two. After a yellow at lap five Watson began challenging for the lead, running next to Michael at times but Michael again was in sole command by lap eight as the lapped car of Gary Murphy drove up in front of the leaders, collecting Michael at the end of the back straight, eliminating the leader from the event. Watson brought the field back to the green but nine cars piled up on turn one, triggered when third running Enos spun. At halfway Watson had a five car-length lead over Brent Rhebergen and Randy Hall. At lap 12 caution was again on the raceway as Pinckney and Enos again spun. After green Hall and Rhebergen ran side-by-side while Watson lengthened his lead. Opening night winner Russ Dunn was up to fourth with six laps remaining. Rhebergen established himself in sole possession of second by lap 15 with Dunn right behind after getting by Hall. At the checkers it was the defending champion Joel Watson with the win over Rhebergen, Dunn, Hall, and Chuck Steinle Jr.

Chad Wright and Billy Henry were on the front row for the start of the Evergreen Lake Park Campground FASTRAK Late Model feature with Max Blair spinning out before the end of lap one, forcing a complete restart. Chad Wright took off to the lead at the end of one lap with Henry second. After four more restarts before lap four Wright was in front with Henry and kyle Zimmerman fighting for second. At halfway Wright was leading with Henry second, Blair up to third and Zimmerman fourth.

Fifteen Specialty Products Mini Stocks ran their 12 lap feature with Joe Longenecker and Jonny Boyd leading the way. At the end of lap one last week’s winner Bud Sergeff slammed the turn four wall, flattening the right front tire but Sergeff kept racing, pitting at the end of lap three. Boyd, the 2010-11 champion leading the first five laps until caution came after the lapped car of Chris Spencer abruptly turned in front of Brad Cole, collecting the third place runner and bringing caution over the raceway. After green again flew Boyd took off to the lead with Zach Downes and John Boyd Sr racing for second. Boyd went on to his first win of the season over Downes, Boyd Sr, Tim Gillette, and Jamie Wrightsman.

The final feature of the night was the brand new Economod class. Last week’s winner Brandon Blackshear was on the pole with Eric Paulus outside. After a lap one restart for a loose driveshaft and one on lap eleven for a minor spin, Blackshear led to the checkers with Steven Burns, Eric Paulus, Jeremy Double, and Jodi Woodworth Sr following him to the line.

Conneaut, OH May 10, 2012: Summer officially made its appearance last Friday night as Raceway 7 started the 2012 season with a great night of racing. The five-star program will return for week number two with a $500 to win Street Stock Special.

The Street Stocks will have their first extra-paying special this week as they take to the track for $500 to win. Rusty Wheeler won the feature opening night and thus leads the points. Paul Schreckengost is five points behind in second with Tommy Fox another five points back in third. 2011 champion Chris Withers is mired back in seventh, 29 points out of the lead.

The Evergreen Lake Park Campgrounds FASTRAK Late Models saw Dave Airgood in Victory Lane opening night over a reduced field due to a regional FASTRAK event at Dog Hollow. This week should see a full field including 2011 champion Max Blair. Billy Henry was second last week, and coupled with a heat race win, is tied with Airgood for the points lead over third-running Kyle Zimmerman, five points in arrears of the leaders.

The Zimmer’s Service Center E-Mods had Russ Dunn dominating their feature from his front row starting spot. The 2010 champion is in a tie with Mike Kinney for the points lead. Veteran Bill Taylor is three points back in third.

Jonny Boyd has utterly dominated the Specialty Products Mini-Stocks but suffered mechanical gremlins in his heat (overheating) last week, failing to finish after leading till turn three of the final lap. Coming from last place in the feature, Boyd made his way all the way to third at the checkers but is fifth in the points. Bud Sergeff scored the win opening night over John Boyd Sr. and leads Boyd Sr. by ten markers in the early run for the points championship. Tim Gillette holds down the third position, 13 points out of the lead.

The new EconoMods had seven competitors in week one with Brandon and Brad Blackshear running first and second in both the heat and feature. Chuck Steinle Sr. ran third in both events so the points show that order with Brandon ten points ahead of Brad and 23 ahead of Steinle.

Weather permitting, gates open every Friday at 5:00 PM with pill draw cut off at 7:00 PM and racing at 7:30 PM. VIP Suites are available for rental for $250 a night which includes 10 general admission passes. Admission is set for $10 for adults, kids 7-14 for $5 and children 6 and under are free. Pit passes are $25. For more information please visit www.raceway7.com or call the track on race day after 12 noon at 440-594-2222

Conneaut, OH April 17, 2012: Changes await Raceway 7 fans when they make their way through the gates opening night this season. With Dan McDonald now purchasing Northeast Ohio’s premier speedplant, 2012 will see the return of the Super Late Models, long the staple of area racefans. At present two shows are planed for the season, June 15 and August 17, both non-sanction events paying $2000 to win. The possibility exists that the ground-pounding cars may return in 2013 as a weekly division.

Raceway 7 is also currently negotiating a return of the Big Block Modifieds, tentatively to kick off Labor Day Weekend. Check Raceway 7’s website frequently for more information as it finalizes.

Returning on a weekly basis this summer will be the Evergreen Lake Park Campgrounds FASTRAK Late Models, with a tour event scheduled for July 6 as part of the “Cross the Borders” 5-night series. This popular series of events will include races at Expo Speedway, McKean County Raceway, Raceway 7, Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway, and Eriez Speedway. Max Blair has dominated this class since 2008 and is expected to defend his crown this season. Returning for the new season will be Billy Henry, former E-Mod champion Bill Cunningham Sr along with his son Billy Cunningham, David Airgood, and Kyle Zimmerman.

The Zimmer Service Center E-Mods will also be returning for another season. This class has had some of the closest points battles at the raceway in the past and will see the modified stars returning to attempt to unseat defending champion Joel Watson. Expected to be in the running for the 2012 Championship are 2010 champion Russ Dunn, 2009 champion Percy McDonald, 2011 Rookie of the Year Ken Zimmer, and a host of others. The Chris Clinger Memorial will be the biggest race of the season, paying $1200 to win, currently scheduled for August 10. A $1000 to win event is scheduled for June 1.

The Street Stocks will return for another year of tight competition with drivers vying to unseat champion Chris Withers. Ed Bolyard, a former track champion was runner-up last season and will be back as will Joe Rohrer, winless in 2011 but consistently near the front of the pack.

Jonny Boyd has utterly dominated the Specialty Products Mini-Stocks over the last two years winning the championship each year along with the lion’s share of the races. Bud Sergeff will do his best to unseat the champion as will John Boyd Sr, who last summer won his first feature since 1977! In the final race of 2011 Boyd Sr managed to edge Sergeff by ten points for the runner-up finish while the younger Boyd and nearly a three week cushion.

New for 2012 will be the Econo Mods, run at nearby Sharon Speedway in 2011 and this season with fields growing every week. 22 Econo Mods signed in at Sharon opening night. With several being build in Raceway 7’s immediate area, the prospect appear bright for a large field for the launch of the class.

Pre-season will see two “test ‘n’ tune” nights, Fridays April 20 and 27. Gates will open at 5:00 for the grandstands where admission will be free and the pits where there will be a $10 pit insurance fee. The concession stands will have a limited menu, only pop, hot dogs, and hamburgers at regular prices.
