Conneaut, OH (July 30, 2010): It was Fan Appreciation Night at Raceway 7 with reduced concession pricing and give-a-ways from the track to over thirty lucky fans. Along with the fan goodies, a Powder Puff event was held with ladies driving Mini Stocks. Four ladies reported to the track for the Powder Puff with Beverly Plesniak getting the victory, driving her Joe Plesniak’s car.

Billy Henry and Mike Mitchell started on the front row of the Schwartz Construction FASTRAK Late Model feature with Henry, a former Steel Block Late Model Champion, leading the way with 7-time winner Max Blair second at the end of one lap. By Lap five Blair was hounding Henry at every turn. When lap seven was completed, the two came by the flag even. One lap later, Blair was solely in control of the lead. Justin Kreider spun in turn three at that point for the first caution of the event. At the halfway point Chad Wright spun in turn two and was collected by John Volpe for caution number two. The final caution came at lap 14 when Kreider again spun, this time in turn two. After green, Mike Mitchell got by Henry for second but Blair was driving away to win number eight on the season. Mitchell was second with Henry third, Bud Watson fourth and Kyle Zimmerman fifth.

Two-time winner Rich Michael Jr started from the pole in the Zimmer Service Center E-Mod feature with Nathan Hill to his right. Michael was looking for his 17th feature win on the season and third here. The field only made it to turn two when a multi-car incident slowed the field. All were able to continue but Percy McDonald, Chuck Steinle Jr and Sr, and Leonard Enos had stopped on the track and had to start in the rear when green was again displayed. Michael led the first lap with Brian Douglas second and arch-rival Randy Hall coming to third. The car on the move early was two-time winner Joel Watson, coming from ninth at the start to fourth in three laps. Watson came to third at lap five and second a lap later. Watson started closing the gap on the leader but was not able to challenge until they reached lapped traffic. With three laps to go, and the leaders in heavy traffic, caution flew for the slowed car of Leonard Enos. After green was again displayed, Watson was next to Michael several times and the two came across the finish line with Michael narrowly gaining the win by 22 thousandths of a second. Behind Watson came Hall third, Russ Dunn fourth, and Dan McDonald fifth. During Victory Lane ceremonies Michael’s left rear tire went flat.

The Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stock feature was led from the start by Randy Wyant with Ken Zimmer second and Chris Withers third. Curtis Bish and Jamie Scharba got together at lap six, bringing caution over the field. With green, Withers immediately grabbed second with Zack Downes coming to fourth. At the final restart after a debris caution Greg Fenno came to second after starting last in the field of 18. With two to go, Ed Bolyard came to third. Wyant won his first of the season over Fenno, Bolyard, Withers, and Zimmer. Three-time winner Shaun Fawcett had his night end before he got to the green flag in his heat race when another car dropped the driveshaft. In the ensuing fracas, the 224 of Fawcett flipped several times, high in the air. Fawcett was not injured but the car was heavily damaged and his streak of three wins in a row came to an end.

Kyle Jackson and Joe Plesniak, both feature winners, started on the front row of the Evergreen Lake Campground Mini Stock feature with Jackson grabbing the immediate lead. At four laps into the event caution was shown for the cars of Jake Eller, Josh Hovis, and Jamie Bobbitt, slamming the wall together on the front straight. The last six laps was Jackson opening his lead with Jonny Boyd getting by Plesniak for second. With two laps to go Bud Sergeff also got by Plesniak for third. Rob Brooks was fifth.

Conneaut, OH (July 29, 2010): A four star show will be held this Friday night, July 30, at Raceway 7 with the Schwartz Construction FASTRAK Late Models. Zimmer Service Center E-Mods, Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stocks, and the Evergreen Lake Campground Mini-Stocks.

The Schwartz Construction FASTRAK Late Models have had a season of everyone trying to catch Max Blair. Blair won the first seven features in a row, finally failing to drive to Victory Lane on July 16. That night disaster struck the youngster in the form of a flat tire, handing the victory to Blair’s father, 4-time Raceway 7 Super Late Model Champion Robbie Blair. The record remains pretty impressive in that it took a mechanical problem to end his run, rather than the younger Blair being defeated by a fellow competitor. So the question remains, can anyone actually beat Max Blair at Raceway 7? Tomorrow night should see more than 20 of the FASTRAK Late Models try, led by Blair’s father, Robbie, and ’09 champion Dennis Lunger, currently 223 points out of the lead, but still second in points! Running third in points is the veteran Bill Cunningham Sr, who put in an excellent effort in the last outing, nearly winning over the Blairs. Cunningham is merely one point behind Lunger in the standings.

In the most recent feature run for the Zimmer Service Center E-Mods, Russ Dunn finally made it to Victory Lane in 2010 and leads the points standings by 68 markers over 2-time winner Joel Watson. Rich Gardner rides 27 points behind Watson in third, but has not yet won at Raceway 7 this season.

Shaun Fawcett has scored feature wins in each of the last three outings for the Campbell Mini Storage Street Stocks and is closing the gap on point’s leader Ken Zimmer, who only has one win on the season. At this point Zimmer still enjoys a 56 point margin. Running third is two-time winner, Ed Bolyard, 21 points behind Fawcett.

Jonny Boyd has dominated the Evergreen Lake Park Mini-Stocks with five feature wins, but has not done so well in heat races. Therefore, the point’s battle in the class is very close with only nine points separating him from his closest rival, Bud Sergeff, the winner of one feature this season. Boyd also won the Mini Stock Challenge held in conjunction with the Auto Racers for Kids special held last Tuesday evening. Although it was not a points-paying event, the win was worth $500 to the young standout driver. 160 points behind Sergeff is Jason Easler, who has not yet scored a feature win.

Gates open every Friday at 5:30 PM with pill draw cut off at 7 PM and racing at 7:30 PM. VIP suites are available for rental for $250 a night which includes eight general admissions passes. Adult general admission is $10 and pit passes are $25. For more information please visit www.raceway7.com or call the track on race day after 12 noon at 440-594-2222.

Conneaut, OH (July 29, 2010): Chris Clinger will be remembered August 20th at Raceway 7 as a special 25-lap race will be held in his honor for the Zimmer Service Center E-Mods. The race will be sponsored by Deuces Wild Motorsports. First-place pay will be $1000. There will also be a “Dash” to set the top four starting positions that will pay $200 to win, then $100, $75, $50 to the last place. The Dash will be composed of the top two finishers from each heat race and the top starting spots will be “Heads up” from the dash. The heat races will be set from group time-trials with the top four in each heat being inverted by speed.

Grandstand gates will open at 5:30 with racing set to start at 7:30. Admission is set for $10 for adults, kids 5-14 are $5. 4 and under free. Pit passes are $25.

Chris was the son of Jim Clinger and the late JoAnne Clinger and was from Waterford, PA. He was a graduate of General McLane High School and Vo-Tech Mechanics. His passions included hunting, practical shooting, and refinishing street cars. For many years he worked with J R Younger on his racecar and had a special fondness for Volkswagens. He owned a Volkswagen that he had restored. He had also done a “chop-job” on it. Right after high school he had worked as a garage mechanic for Jim Boozel and later did fabrication work in both Butler, PA and Dewitt, NY. In 1993 he married but never had children. His black dog, “Pepper” was his child.

Tragically, in a work-related accident in 1999, at the age of 29, Chris was taken from us. He is missed every day by his family and friends. The racing community will take this race to remember Chris Clinger.

Conneaut, OH (July 27, 2010): Raceway 7 hosted the Auto Racers for Kids, Bonnell Collision Sprint Series racing for charity Tuesday night with Danny Mumaw and Jonny Boyd picking up the wins. Charities involved include the charities involved are the Children’s Miracle Network, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Sarah Reed Children’s Center, Butterflies for Kids, Newspapers in Education, Junior Achievement, and the Kiwanis.

Twenty-four Sprints started the 25-lap feature for the Bonnell Collision Sprint Car Series with Dan Shelter and Eriez Speedway winner Jack Sodeman Jr leading the way to Roger Osburn’s green flag. Sodeman took off with the lead over Shetler and led by a quarter straight after just three laps. Bob Felmlee spun on the back straight at lap three and backed into the rail. Under the yellow Rod George headed to the infield and then pitside. After green, Sodeman again took off with Shetler falling behind. Eighth starting Danny Mumaw came to third at lap six while Sodeman and Shetler were approaching lapped traffic. At the halfway point Sodeman was threading his way through the backmarkers, allowing Shetler to close the gap. Mumaw managed to get by Shetler at lap 14 and then by Sodeman for the lead at lap 16. Mumaw won by several car-lengths with Sodeman second, Shetler third and Andy McKisson fourth. Cole Duncan was fifth.

The Mini Stocks were racing for $500 to win and eighteen of them showed for their 15-lap special. Brad Cole and Kyle Jackson II were on the front row with Joe Plesniak, coming all the way from the third row, getting the lead at lap one. Jason Easler stalled on the back straight just as the leaders crossed the line. At the restart Plesniak immediately took the lead with track points leader Jonny Boyd coming from his eighth starting position to second. After another yellow Jackson II was back to second. Boyd came back by Jackson II at lap six but Jackson was back in second a lap later. The spot see-sawed until lap seven, when Boyd made the pass stick. He then went after Plesniak, getting by at lap ten. Boyd went on to his sixth win of the season, and the most lucrative, paying $500 to win. Plesniak held on for second with Jackson II settling for third. Tim Gillette wound up fourth with Kyle Dickenson fifth.

Fireworks will light up the sky over northeast Ohio’s Raceway 7 Friday night as well as a hot time on the racetrack as the United Late Model Series invades for a $2000 to win Late Model special to celebrate Raceway 7’s 40th Anniversary. The Fireworks, originally scheduled for July 2, will be sponsored by Lakeview Ford and the Anniversary celebration with the Super Late Model Special sponsored by Jay’s Auto Wrecking, one of the sponsors that were active in the very early days of Raceway 7.

Conneaut, OH (July 7, 2010)… Fireworks will light up the sky over northeast Ohio’s Raceway 7 Friday night as well as a hot time on the racetrack as the United Late Model Series invades for a $2000 to win Late Model special to celebrate Raceway 7’s 40th Anniversary. The Fireworks, originally scheduled for July 2, will be sponsored by Lakeview Ford and the Anniversary celebration with the Super Late Model Special sponsored by Jay’s Auto Wrecking, one of the sponsors that were active in the very early days of Raceway 7. Jay’s Auto Wrecking has been involved with Raceway 7 through thick and thin and are appreciated as one of racing’s best friends. Also on the schedule is a treat for all old-timers who remember the early days of the famed raceway. Over 40 luminaries will be in attendance for the celebration and it is expected many seasons will get reviewed by those in attendance. The stage area at the fourth turn end of the raceway will be utilized for reminiscing prior to the evening’s events getting underway.

The Schwartz Excavating Fastrak Late Models, Zimmer’s Service Center E-Mods, Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stocks, and Evergreen Lake Campground Mini Stocks will also have their heats and feature.

Can anyone stop Max Blair’s winning streak in the Schwartz Construction FASTRAK Late Models? Seven feature races have been contested thus far in 2010 and seven times it has been Max’s car in the Winner’s Circle. Four of those seven times saw his father Rob, a former Late Model Champion, second. The thing is, Robbie has only made four appearances at the raceway this summer. Even though he has missed nearly half the races, he still runs sixth in points. Trailing Max in second, a distant 202 points out of the lead, is 2009 champion Dennis Lunger. All but one of Lunger’s feature race wins have come in July, so he would be the leading candidate to unseat the young Blair at the top. Dave Airgood lies third in the standings, ten points behind Lunger.

Russ Dunn, winless thus far in 2010, heads up the Zimmer Service Center E-Mod points chase with Joel Watson 53 points behind. Watson is a two-time winner this year, including last week when he used the car usually driven by Gerry Kielar, to make the drive to Victory Lane in a $1000 to win special. Third is currently Rich Gardner, eight points behind Watson. Gardner is also looking for his first win of the current campaign.

Ken Zimmer, with a win the second week of the season, leads the Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stocks season championship standings. Ed Bolyard, with two wins this year, trails by 35 points with Shawn Fawcett 26 point behind Bolyard. Fawcett is currently the hottest driver in the division, coming of two consecutive wins.

The closest points battle is in the Evergreen Lake Campground Mini Stocks where Jonny Boyd only has a four-point edge over Bud Sergeff, even though the young Boyd has four feature wins compared to Sergeff’s lone victory. Boyd has had troubles in the heat events, losing valuable points to his pursuers. Third in the standings is Bill Rabbits, 139 points behind Sergeff.
